Lore & Background
Lesnitsky is introduced as a Red Line spy who was undercover for the Rangers. He is revealed to have stolen weaponized Ebola from the D6 vault, which the Red Line then uses to massacre the inhabitants of a station under the guise of containing a mysterious epidemic. Lesnitsky also kidnaps Anna, Colonel Miller's daughter and the Rangers' best sniper, during the events of Metro: Last Light. Artyom later defeats Lesnitsky during his journey to Polis, the Metro's central area, where a peace conference is taking place.
In Their Own Story
The tunnels hummed with the distant growl of a generator. Lesnitsky's shadow stretched long against the damp wall as he moved through the Red Line station, his uniform crisp, his eyes cold. He had played his part well — the loyal Ranger, the helpful escapee. But now, with the weaponized Ebola secured from D6, his true allegiance was laid bare. He watched as Red Line soldiers herded civilians into a sealed chamber, their screams muffled by the thick concrete. 'Containment,' he muttered, the word tasting like ash. Later, when Artyom cornered him near Polis, Lesnitsky's smirk never wavered. 'You think this ends here?' he said, raising his pistol. 'The Metro is already dead. We're just deciding who gets to rule the corpse.'
Reader's Guide
Lesnitsky appears in Metro: Last Light as an antagonist. He is first encountered as a captured Red Line soldier who escapes with Artyom from the Fourth Reich. However, upon reaching the Red Line, he is revealed to be a high-ranking officer and detains Artyom to learn about the Rangers and the Dark One. Later, Lesnitsky kidnaps Anna and steals weaponized Ebola from D6, which the Red Line uses to massacre a station's inhabitants. Artyom defeats Lesnitsky during the journey to Polis. Players should note that Lesnitsky's betrayal is a key turning point in the story, and his actions directly lead to the final confrontation at D6.
